RURAL RESIDENCE opened its doors in May of 1999 in the burgeoning city of Hudson, New York. At that time, Hudson’s main street was awash with some sixty antique stores, not a single home furnishing shop, one art gallery Carrie Haddad Gallery, and one new restaurant, The Charleston. Fourteen years later a very different Hudson has emerged. Over thirty-five new businesses have opened this year on historic Warren Street, or in close proximity. Hudson is emerging as a newly imagined city on the Hudson river surrounded by bucolic farmland and villages, and continues as a convergence center for artists, farmers, advocacy groups for architecture and the arts, musicians, decorators, architects, preservationists, merchants, writers and idealists.

Located at 316 Warren Street, Rural Residence offerings include American antiques, stationery, bathroom finery, essentials for the gentleman, bedding, glassware, dinnerware, books on architecture and the decorative arts, paint, and wallpaper. It is a reflection of the owner’s taste and interest in the nineteenth-century, antiques, historic preservation, vernacular architecture, design, and textiles. Because of our proximity to New York, Boston and the Berkshires, luminaries in the arts, music, drama and the film industry, in addition to visitors from near and far, quickly become perennial customers. We host book signings for notable authors such as Colm Toibin, Verlyn Klinkenborg, Amy Goldman, Hermes Mallea, Lynn Davis, A. T. Mann, Steve Gross, Susan Daley, and a host of others. Rural Residence offers paint color specification for client’s homes and consulting regarding matters of taste.
